Food & Travel Guide United Kingdom

Some of my favourite travel memories have happened here. Sharing afternoon tea in London with my nan and now with my daughter. Travelling through Yorkshire by steam train. Wandering through Castle Howard’s gardens and chatting with Georgie, the PR manager. Discovering restaurants that become destinations in themselves, including my all-time favourite, Ekstedt at the Yard.

This is Britain at a slower pace. On this page, you’ll find places I’ve personally visited, restaurants I genuinely recommend, hotels I’d happily return to, and itineraries designed to help you experience more by trying to do less.

Want to experience Britain at your own pace?

I can help you create a personalised journey through the UK, combining places you genuinely want to experience with memorable food, beautiful stays and enough time to actually enjoy them.

United Kingdom in a nutshell

💬 Languages
English is the main language across the UK, with Welsh, Scottish Gaelic and Irish also spoken in certain regions. You will hear plenty of accents too, sometimes it feels like every county has its own.

💰 Currency
The UK uses Pound Sterling, often written as GBP. Cards and contactless payments are accepted almost everywhere.

🍰 Food, glorious food
British food has come a long way. Expect excellent local produce, brilliant bakeries, thriving farmers’ markets and global influences everywhere you look. From buttery scones with jam and cream to full English breakfasts, fresh oysters eaten by the sea, fragrant curries and inventive modern cooking, it is a country that rewards hungry travellers.

💡 Travel ideas
Base yourself in London for world class museums, neighbourhood wandering and a dazzling dining scene. Explore the beaches and fishing villages around Rye, hike through the lakes and peaks of the Lake District or follow scenic rail routes through the green countryside of Yorkshire dotted with stone cottages and market towns.
