Food & Travel Guide Denmark

Copenhagen first drew me in with its restaurants, bakeries and effortless way of life, but over time I discovered there is so much more beyond the capital. Road trips through Jutland brought wide beaches, tiny fishing towns and some memorable seafood, while Bornholm showed me a quieter side of Denmark, where cycling, coastal walks and simple meals become part of the rhythm of the day.

The Danish Riviera, just north of Copenhagen, is another part of Denmark I particularly enjoy. With its charming seaside villages, beautiful places to stay and cultural highlights such as Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, it's the perfect destination for a few days of slower travel by the sea.

On this page, you’ll find places I’ve personally visited, restaurants I genuinely recommend, memorable stays and travel ideas designed to help you experience more by trying to do less.

Denmark in a nutshell

💬 Languages
The official language is Danish, but almost everyone speaks excellent English, making travelling here refreshingly easy.

💰 Currency
Denmark uses the Danish Krone, abbreviated as DKK. Credit cards are widely accepted, even for small purchases.

🐟 Open-topped smørrebrød
Expect beautifully simple dishes made with superb local ingredients, from open topped smørrebrød piled high with seafood and meats, to flaky pastries, creamy fish soups and New Nordic cuisine that turns foraging and fermentation into an art form.

💡 Travel ideas
Base yourself in Copenhagen for world class museums, neighbourhood wandering and a dazzling dining scene.

Just north of the capital, escape to the Danish Riviera for charming seaside villages, beautiful beaches and a wonderful combination of art, history and relaxed coastal living. My three-day itinerary takes you from Hornbæk to Louisiana Museum of Modern Art and Kronborg Castle.

For a slower adventure, plan a road trip through Jutland where wide beaches, charming towns and excellent seafood define the rhythm of travel.

The island of Bornholm also deserves a trip of its own, loved for its smoked fish, dramatic cliffs, sandy coves and relaxed pace. It is a wonderful place for walking, cycling, lingering over lunch and simply enjoying the sea air.
