Food & Travel Guide
Spain
Spain is a country that invites you to slow down, linger at the table and plan your days around markets, beaches and late dinners.
From vibrant cities buzzing with creativity to olive groves, vineyards and sun drenched coastlines, it offers a wonderfully varied travel experience.
Life here often revolves around food, family and being outdoors, whether that is sharing plates in a noisy bar, strolling along a seaside promenade or browsing fresh produce at a local market.
Spain in a nutshell
💬 Languages
Spanish, also called Castilian, is the main language nationwide. You will also hear regional languages such as Catalan, including in Barcelona, as well as Basque and Galician in other parts of the country. English is widely spoken in tourist areas.
💰 Currency
Spain uses the Euro, abbreviated as EUR. Cards are accepted almost everywhere, though smaller cafés and markets may prefer cash.
🥘 Food, glorious food
Spain is heaven for tapas and late night diners. Think jamón sliced to order, sizzling garlic prawns, tortilla española, croquetas and endless varieties of paella. Add superb seafood, regional wines and the ritual of hopping from bar to bar for tapas and you have a country that truly understands the joy of eating well.
💡 Travel ideas
Spend time in Barcelona for its bold architecture, lively neighbourhoods, beachside walks and outstanding food scene, from classic tapas bars to cutting edge restaurants. Balance city energy with island life on Mallorca, where mountain roads wind past stone villages and citrus groves before dropping down to turquoise coves and sandy calas, perfect for swimming, hiking and long seafood lunches by the water.
